The metal top plate was always black and the power switch was a rocker type on the right side. — i have an xb and an xa base on hand and the exterior dimensions are the same 12 9/16 x 16 9/16 and my xb dust cover fits both. It is essentially the same as the famous xa. — an ar xa or xb in superb condition and maintained is equal to the thorens td 150, td 160 or an entry level. It was a complete mess as it lacked a drive. — this is a fantastic vintage acoustic research xb turntable. The xb was introducted around 1972 for $130 (at this time the xa was $115) with a plywood veneer base, the tonearm lift, no mechanical damping, black plastic headshell, and a stainless steel counterweight. Came with original box, manual, paperwork, accessories, and even the original receipts.
